About us

NuvoVec srl is an innovative startup society, spin-off of the University of Ferrara.

The research team includes scientists from the University of Ferrara (Italy) and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (USA).

This relationship has been strengthened over the years by the exchange of students and post-docs, by several joined application for grants and by numerous common scientific publications.

At the beginning, the collaboration was based on applied research themes, in particular on the development and the engineering of non-pathogenic herpetic vectors for the delivery of therapeutic genes as well as on the implementation of these techniques for the treatment of central nervous system diseases like epilepsy and neurodegenerative diseases (Marconi et al., Gene Therapy 1999; Simonato et al., TiNS 2000; Marconi et al., Gene Therapy 2005; Paradiso et al., PNAS 2009; Simonato et al., Nat Rev Neurol 2013). Recently this collaboration focused on the commercial applications, which represent the natural evolution of the research: the creation, the optimization and the preclinical and clinical application of gene transfer systems based on herpes virus.
